Learning that there is more to psychology than at first glance, senior Jenna Yeary is focusing on how she can merge her interests in behavior analysis and criminology to help build strong cases as an FBI profiler or a jury consultant.
“I have realized that psychology is a broad lens that looks at many sectors of human life and how it operates with the world around it,” she said.
Dr. Marci DeRamus, Assistant Professor of Psychological Science, said Yeary serves as a leader in the classroom.
“She continually goes above and beyond on her coursework,” she said. “Jenna is always prepared, participates in activities and discussions, and is unafraid to ask clarifying questions.”
In addition, Yeary is a Supplemental Instruction leader, member of the Softball team and President of Psi Chi. Most recently, she has taken on the role of Vice President of the new LaGrange Bridge Advisory Council, which will work to link the campus to the city.
“This opportunity enables me to connect the college with all of the great opportunities downtown LaGrange has to offer,” she said. “I am really looking forward to getting more community involvement on campus while also getting the college students to be more invested in the city that surrounds them.”
In the classroom, Yeary said she has gained new perspectives from her Sociology courses.
“Assistant Professor Dr. Lacey Moore has been a great mentor for me on campus,” she said. “Her classes foster an environment for important conversations even if they are hard, and she has opened my mind to many of the possibilities that I can achieve and get involved in on campus and in the community.”
Dr. Moore described Yeary as someone who supports her peers and is willing to try new things, including enrolling in a Spring 2026 course focused on a nationwide program, Inside-Out, that works with incarcerated people furthering their education.
“She is typically the first to sign up for class facilitations or presentations, which sets the bar for the rest of the course. This semester, she and a partner facilitated a lesson for my Kinship & Family class that even taught me a few things. Her consistency and work ethic both contributed to her inclusion in the first LaGrange College Inside-Out cohort next semester.”
Why LC?
I enjoy the small, community-based relationships,” she said. “It is an environment where you are supported rather than treated as just another student.”
